It's important to follow instructions to avoid complications following an extraction:
Bite on gauze for an hour to stop bleeding.
If bleeding continues, bite on moist gauze or moist teabag for another hour. Repeat as necessary.
Do not rinse, spit or use a straw for 24 hours.
Use ice packs on side of face for first 24 hours: apply for 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off.
After 24 hours rinse gently with warm salt water several times a day, especially after meals.
Diet should consist of room temperature, soft food and cool drinks. Avoid eating in area of surgery.
Avoid strenuous activity and avoid exercise for 2-3 days.
Avoid smoking for 5 days.
If the jaw muscles become sore, apply moist heat on the face in the area of soreness to relax muscles.
Take medication as prescribed.
Contact us if there is any excessive pain, swelling or bleeding.
